Top 5 Nigerian players from the weekend

Welcome to another edition of the top five Nigerian football players whose top notch performance earned them a place on our list from the weekend.

1. Taiwo Awoniyi ( Royal Mouscron )
The 20 year old former Flying Eagles striker makes it a back to back appearance on our list after his 36th minute equalizer against Kortrijk in the Belgium first division playoffs propelled his side to triumph 2-1 at the end.

After finding the net 2 weeks ago, his goal over the weekend was his 8th strike across all competitions this season. Awoniyi is on cause to set a record three consecutive appearances “Top five Nigerian players” if he makes it to our list next week.

2. Samuel Kalu (Gent)

Samuel Kalu was the match hero for KAA Gent, with his second minute goal against Club Brugge enough to secure a narrow win in a very tight game.

The dazzling left footed winger is simply floating in the air, with top notch performances for Gent almost every other week.

3. Alex Iwobi  (Arsenal)
Iwobi was lively dazzling and decisive for the gunners 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday.

Iwobi provided the assist for the winning goal scored by Danny Welbeck in the 81st minute which made it 2 assists in the match after providing the first in the 38th minute.

4. Joel Obi (Torino)

The Super Eagles midfielder continued his wonderful form for Club.

He was in inspired form on Sunday against his former club Inter Milan to help them win the match 1-0 in the Italian Serie A.


5. Fred Friday (Sparta Rotterdam)

Fred Friday was something of a super substitute coming off the bench in the 71st minute to set up Robert Muhren who scored the winner for Sparta Rotterdam in the 81st minute against VVV-Venlo.

The match was heading for a 2-2 draw until Friday intervened with nine minutes to go just after spending 10 minutes on the pitch.
