Following the Easter break which almost everyone, except the decision makers, thought wasn’t really necessary, action resumes this Wednesday in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with six games billed to hold and the rest rescheduled as a result of continental engagements.
We will look at the top five fixtures of the available six;
5. Sunshine Stars vs Kwara United
In a battle of troubled clubs, bottom placed Kwara United visits Sunshine Stars who are only two places above them. Both teams have new coaches who are in only their second game but litigation riddled Sunshie will hope to post one good headline after a week of making all the wrong ones. Kwara United, smarting from inflicting only Kano Pillars’ third defeat this season will be looking to capitalize on their host’s off field troubles.
Prediction: Sunshine 2-0 Kwara
4. Rangers vs Yobe Desert Stars
The surprise team of the season, Yobe Desert Stars have managed an impressive first season in the NPFL. The Babaganaru tutored side are the best of the promoted sides with a seventh place position, just sitting behind the big boys but their hosts can leapfrog them with a victory. Coach Ogunbote knows they can win all three available points as their visitors are bad travelers.
Prediction: Rangers 1:0 Yobe D.S.
3. Rivers United vs Heartland
In a derby of sorts, Heartland travel to neighboring Port Harcourt to tackle Rivers United. Heartland are one of the two newly promoted sides currently in the bottom four and just like the other side, won their own conference. Coach Stanley Eguma needs to get his Rivers United side into shape and out of the battle for survival and this is one of the games that should be taken very serious as Heartland have proven stubborn away from home, though that was under the tutelage of the sacked Coach Ramson Madu.
Prediction: Rivers United 2-0 Heartland
2. Abia Warriors vs Lobi Stars
Umuahia will host current league leaders, Lobi Stars as they tackle Emmanuel Deustch-led Abia Warriors who boast of the best strike partnership in the league, with 11 goals between the duo of Ndifreke Effiong and Obi Samson. The Umuahia based side will hope to thwart the efficiency of Lobi Stars as they try to move as far away from the drop zone as possible.
Prediction: Abia Warriors 1-1 Lobi Stars
1. Kano Pillars vs FC IfeanyiUbah
Pillars have only lost thrice this season, a record bettered by the only side that stopped them from a perfect record at home, Enyimba International, and also boast of goal king, Junior Lokosa whose 12 goals this term dwarfs everyone else’s and he doesn’t look like stopping. FC IfeanyiUbah brewing with confidence from a point in their last trip away from home will hope to build on their 3-0 victory over champions, Plateau United. We can only wait to find out if the Anambra Warriors can stop the potent Sai Masu Gida hotshot, Junior Lokosa
Prediction: Pillars 2-1 FCIU
