Top 5 NPFL matchday 2 fixtures to look forward to

The Nigeria Professional Football League [NPFL] resumes today across six centres as matchday two fixtures will see five games go on today and one scheduled for tomorrow with the other six postponed. Here are the top five fixtures of matchday two.

5. Niger Tornadoes vs Rivers United: The Ikon Allah boys will be opening their season with a clash with visiting Rivers United State the Bako Kontagora stadium in a match that will be the first game for both teams this season and will be one of the two games to be held in group A. It promises to be an interesting encounter as both teams are expected to field a handful of new additions.

4. Abia Warriors vs Go Round: Go Round will kick off their NPFL season campaign with a trip to the Umuahia Township Stadium where they will face Abia Warriors who are fresh from an away defeat and need to get a result in front of the home fans. Go Round survived last season due to the decision to cut the league short and their promotion winning coach left for Yobe Desert Stars. Warriors new coach, Henry Makinwa will be itching to impress in front of his home fans as they battle for their first points of the new season.

3. MFM vs Kwara United: MFM return to Lagos after suffering the biggest defeat of matchday one and will host Kwara United who failed to win at home against Sunshine Stars. MFM new striker, Michael Ohanu will be squaring up against his former employers and will hope to help his new team to their first points after an unfruitful game in Aba on Sunday. Kwara United who missed a chance to win their first game from the spot will hope to take their chances when they visit the Agege Stadium.

2. Heartland vs Plateau United: Heartland and their fans will never forget their trip to Jos three seasons ago where a controversial defeat saw them get relegated. This fixture last season also saw Heartland play under closed doors as the Naze Millionaires failed to win in Owerri and the Owerri based side who have moved their home ground to Okigwe Township Stadium will hope to open the new ground with a victory against the Abdul Maikaba tutored Plateau United who are searching for their first goal this season after coming unstuck in an ill-fated match against FC IfeanyiUbah in Jos on Sunday.

1. Elkanemi vs Pillars: Elkanemi Warriors return to Maiduguri on Thursday fresh from a surprise victory recorded in Uyo against a star-studded Akwa United tutored by the Brazilian Rafael Everton, thanks to an Olorunleke last minute blunder, to face another star-studded side in the mould of Kano Pillars in Maiduguri. Pillars who have lost their star striker, Junior Lokosa to Esperance of Tunisia will look to their new acquisition, goalscorer Sunday Chinedu to partner with the deadly Nyima Nwangwa to replicate their forward line success from last season. This all northern affair promises to produce fireworks and is deservedly our pick of the week.
