Go Round FC Coach, Willy Udube is thrilled following a debut win as Head Coach of a Nigeria Professional Football League side.
Udube’s announcement as Head Coach of Omoku based Go Round FC on November 2018, saw him take charge for the first time, of a club in Nigeria’s Premier Division after previous roles as an assistant at Rivers United and Heartland FC.
With their Match Day 1 encounter against Kada City postponed, the match against Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Stadium on Match Day 2 was Udube’s first real test in charge of the Rivers club.
Go Round took the lead in the 37th minute following a strike by Ololade Sadiq but the Warriors leveled matters in the 69th minute when Emeka Isaac scored from the spot after team mate Ibrahim Olawoyin was brought down in the box by Go Round defender Akaba Otega.
A late strike by substitute Emmanuel Ugwu in added time however gave Go Round FC victory, earning Udube maximum points in his first outing as Go Round boss.
“I am very glad to win my first NPFL Match,” said Udube, speaking post match.
“It’s going to be a morale booster for me and we are going to work hard. It’s a lesson.”
The elated Coach praised his players for the win over Abia Warriors despite book makers thinking a victory on the day was not likely.
“People never gave us the chance. People are underating us, but we pray that with the hard work we are putting into the team, we are going to do good this season.
“This win will ginger us to Go home and work harder.”
Go Round FC will play FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Kris Dera Stadium in Omoku on Match Day 3.
