Let’s take a look at the Nigerian players outputs for their various clubs outside the shores of the country on Saturday 17th February. Welcome on board to our Nigerian players wrap.
We start off in the Netherlands, where on loan FC Roma striker Umar Sadiq came on as a 61st minute substitute for NAC Breda to score in the 85th minute in what proved to be only a consolation goal as they lost 1-3 to AZ Alkmaar.
In Spain, Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo is making steady impact in La Liga as he played in another full 90 minutes for Las Palmas who went down 1-2 to visiting Sevilla. There was a debut for another Nigerian in Imoh Ezekiel, he came on in the 42nd minute to replace injured Gabriel Penalba. Both players gave a good account of themselves.
Super Eagles right back Tyronne Ebuehi was on for the entire duration of ADO Den Haag’s come-from-behind 2-1 victory at home to Willem II. Veteran striker Bartholomew Ogbeche led the lines for the visitors and also played the entirety of the match.
In Germany, striker Victor Osimhen came on for Wolfsburg in the 84th minute as they succumbed 1-2 to Bundesliga giants and runaway leaders Bayern Munich despite taking the lead. German born defender of Nigerian decent Felix Ohis-Uduokhai did not feature for Wolfsburg due to a knee injury.
In neighbouring Austria, former Akwa United midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim started from the bench for Austria Wien in their 1-2 loss away to Mattersburg. Ibrahim was brought on in the 70th minute, and yellow carded fifteen minutes later as his efforts were futile in restoring parity to a crumbling Wein side.
Former U-20 Nigerian flying Eagles star, Abduljaleel Ajagun provided an assist for Teddy Chevalier in the 73rd minute which ensured Kortrijk FC won 1-0 away to Lokeren in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Ajagun was recalled to the bench ten minutes later.
Old timer, Joseph Akpala led the line from the start for Oostende, but failed to score up on till the 69th minute when he was replaced by Zinho Gano in a 0-0 draw against Royal Antwerp away from home.
Forward Peter Olayinka was pivotal in helping Zulte-Waregem win 3-2 at home to Eupen. Olayinka was in action for the entirety of the match.
Striker Denis Bonaventure came on for Club Brugge in the 75th minute in a 2-2 draw at home to Genk.
In Turkey, on-loan FC Roma striker Aminu Umar and Raheem Lawal both started for Osmanlispor FK in their 2-3 loss away to Sivasspor. Midfielder Lawal was withdrawn to the bench in the 46th minute while Sadiq saw full game time but failed to find the back of the net.
Finally in South Africa, Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was benched in Baroka FC 0-0 draw against his team Chippa United.
That’s it for now, more to come as we follow our stars where ever they are.
