Super Eagles chief coach Salisu Yusuf, has said his side were wasteful against Guinea in the 2017 WAFU Cup matchday two Group A encounter at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday.
Nigeria played another unimpressive goal less draw against Guinea with a lot of scoring chances wasted at both halves.
The duo from Lobi Stars, Kingsley Eduwo and Tony Okpotu came close on several occasions but failed to put the final balls home.
Super Eagles in two consecutive group stage matches has failed to find the
back of the net since their 2-0 win over Sierra Leone in the knockout round.
The NPFL stars have garnered two points from a possible six against Mali and Guinea.
“We created some precious chances in the game but couldn’t finish up, we drew this game because we were not prolific in the attack,” said Salisu to Naijafootballplus.com after the game.
“We didn’t have enough time to prepare for this tournament, we will continue to fight and push to the last day. It is a big disappointment we can’t score goals, we shall continue to work and motivate the attackers.”
Salisu rested Super Eagles B team captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa and handed Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye his national debut.
Salisu added; “I have said it several times that we are using the WAFU Cup to prepare for the CHAN tournament next year.
Honestly, the tight schedule of the league denied our preparations. We have to rotate the team and give everyone a chance to play.
“Ajiboye has been impressive in training and he got his opportunity today, I am happy with his performance he was smart and timing. We don’t have issues with the goalkeeping department, we have got two quality goalkeepers.”
