Nigeria Super Falcons made sure they didn’t end their campaign in the maiden edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) women’s cup empty handed as they defeated Mali women 2-1 to claim Bronze medal in the third place playoff match.
The Super Falcons who lost on Thursday 5-4 on penalties to Black Queens of Ghana redeemed their image as a force still to reckon with in African women football
Having played and beaten Mali in the group phase, they went into the game full of confidence but they suffered an early scare when Fatoumata Diarra handed the Malians the lead in the 9th minute.
Nigeria rallied back through Chinaza Uchendu who leveled the game in the 13th minute. The skilful forward completed her brace in the 39th minute to put Nigeria in the driving seat. She was denied her hat-trick after her third goal was cancelled in the 89th minutes.
Meanwhile, Chinaza Uchende was adjudged has Woman of the match in the game.
