Watford sack Marco Silva, blame lack of focus

Watford have sacked Marco Silva after their loss away to Leicester yesterday, saying the decision owed to a supposed lack of focus.

The Hornets began the season in fine form, but have won just once in 11 league games, since Everton’s ‘unwarranted approach’ for the Portuguese back in November, without which, according to a club statement, the team would have continued to prosper under his leadership.

Silva, who emphasised his belief that his job was safe after the loss at Leicester less than 24 hours ago, was named Watford manager at the end of last season, after managing Hull City and almost saving them from relegation.

He’s the third manager to take charge of Watford in the Premier League since their promotion in 2015, along with Quique Sanchez Flores and Walter Mazzarri, neither of whom have lasted more than a season.
