Super Falcons of Nigeria captain, and Kristiansand DFF midfielder Rita, says that they are going to the Cyprus women’s cup tournament for serious business.
The African champions will be making their debut in the twelfth edition of the invitational tournament this year and Chikwelu is optimistic that Super Falcons are not going just to make up numbers and participate but to compete very well with other countries.
“We are going for the Cyprus Cup to participate and compete very well with other countries, I want to assure our fans and Nigerians that we are not just going there to make up numbers but we are going there to make a huge difference”.
The midfield general who has been in scintillating form for her club having scored two goals in two cup games expressed happiness that Super Falcons were able to make it to this year’s invitational tournament because the tournament will help keep them in good shape ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup later in the year.
She went further to thank the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation, led by Amaju Pinnick for ensuring that the team have had good preparations ahead of the World Cup.
“We are happy as a team and as individuals that we are going for the Cyprus Cup tournament for the first time, it’s a good preparation for us ahead of the World Cup. I want to say a big thank you to NFF for ensuring that we have had good preparation ahead of the world cup”.
Chikwelu and other foreign based players will join the home based players in Cyprus by Tuesday 26th of February.
