Zambian Premier League side, Zesco United contingent consisting of players and officials are expected to arrive Enugu on Thursday for Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup round of 32, first leg tie against NPFL champions Rangers International.
However, naijafootballplus.com can report that Zesco United’s advance party led by Zesco Executive Committee member Charles Kalala have arrived in Enugu today (Tuesday) ahead of the arrival of the full contingent on Thursday.
Zesco United at the weekend defeated Nkana FC 2-0 in the Zambian Charity Cup, Jon Chingandu scored a brace for his side in the encounter to emerge as champions.
Speaking with naijafootballplus.com on arrival in Enugu, Zesco United Administrative Officer, Frank Chitambala believes his team have got a good chance against Rangers on Sunday.
“We are expecting a big test, It is football as both teams have got equal chances going into the game, the other percentage higher or lower is achieved on the matchday depending on performance of either team.
“This team (Zesco United) perhaps in last season’s champions League was the only side that pushed Sundowns, the champions to the limits.
“As a matter of fact, Pitso Mosimane (Sundowns Manager) personally told me that should his side go past Zesco United, they would emerge champions of Africa.
With Rangers international to host the first leg this Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium and the second leg billed to be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium a week later, Chitambala did not stop short in describing how prepared his side are going into this encounter.
“This team played Al Ahly and had Africa’s most successful side and team of the century on the ropes. Played against top African sides without fear.
“It is a well experienced side, almost all the players that were at the club last season when we got to the semi-final of the champions league are still with the club and team also got strengthened in both technical and squad,” said Chitambala to naijafootballplus.com.
