Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi, is happy to represent Nigeria according to his manager at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger.
Wenger said the exciting Nigerian young star, had the quality to play for England and Nigeria.
”He had the potential to play for England and for Nigeria. Today he looks very happy with Nigeria. When I speak to him, he’s had very positive experiences,” Wenger was quoted according to arsenal.com
Wenger went on to say that Nigeria are reaping the benefits of Iwobi opting to play for the super Eagles over the Three Lions.
”He brings his quality to Nigeria – he’s absolutely a creative player going forward. He’s very strong in small spaces and he’s starting to score goals as well.
The French man went on to say Nigeria took advantage of a period of doubt by England, to secure the allegiance of Iwobi who had featured for England at the U16, U17, and U18 levels.
”For a while it was open between England and Nigeria, and England didn’t really push for Alex during that period. Nigeria were more willing to have him.
”I’ve seen many times that sons of parents from Nigeria want to go back to their parents’ country.”
Iwobi made his full debut for Nigeria against Congo in 2015 and was very instrumental in the Super Eagles qualification to the World to be played in Russia next year.
