After having watched his side hold on to an away point in Umuahia, FC Ifeanyi Ubah coach Yaw Preko wasn’t impressed with the playing surface at the Umuahia Township stadium.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday held Abia Warriors to a goalless draw at the Umuahia Township Stadium in an NPFL Matchday 32 tie.
Preko who spoke to journalists after the game was surprised that such playing surface at the Umuahia Township stadium still exists in the NPFL.
“Our tactics coming into the game was destabilized by the pitch because you can’t play football on this pitch. It’s a very bad field and I’m surprised to see this kind of field in the league. Well it’s raining season so we just had to battle and fight for the game and we’re gonna build on this result.”
In a week where he watched his side lose a two goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Gombe United, Preko was satisfied with the one point gained in Umuahia.
“It’s good that after losing two points at home we get a point away with this kind of field. I’m proud of my boys, they fought very hard.
“In the First half we struggled because the condition of the pitch was terrible and don’t forget we are playing away. In the second half we became more compact and composed and I am very happy that everything we practiced in training was actualized on the pitch and I’m happy for the point.
On whether his team can still qualify for the continent, the Ghanaian tactician was optimistic of his team’s chamces.
“We have 6 more games to go, anything can still happen. Luckily those ahead of us still have to come to Nnewi and we need to pickup the pieces and see how it goes.”
FC Ifeanyi Ubah sit 7th on the log with 47 points from 32 games.
