Defender Benjamin Pavard yet to believe that he won the World Cup at 22.
Benjamin Pavard: “It’s something quite improbable at 22. Out of nowhere. I think I am not really aware of what we have done. When we go home, we will see the reception of the French people.”
Adil Rami on his lucky moustache: “Antoine Griezmann touched it before the game, and even the manager did to bring luck. It is now the most famous moustache in France. I will keep it. But for me and the national team, things are now finished.”
Olivier Giroud: “We celebrated in the dressing room with President Emmanuel Macron. Vladimir Putin and Croatian President congratulated us. We will enjoy this.”
Kylian Mbappé: “I am very happy. I had the ambition of winning this at the start of the World Cup. The road was long but it was worth it. We are proud we have made the French people happy.”
The team coach Didier Deschamp commended the players efforts and unity within the team.
Didier Deschamps: “The group worked so hard and we had some tough moments along the way. It hurt so much to lose the Euro two years ago, but it made us learn too.
How marvellous! It’s a young team, who are on the top of the world. Some are champions at the age of 19. We did not play a huge game but we showed mental quality. And we scored four goals anyway. They deserved to win.”
France won the World Cup for the second time in their history beating Croatia 4-2 courtesy goals from Manzukic own goal, Antoine Griezman, Paul Pogba and Kyian Mbappe, while Ivan Perisic and Mario Mabzukic got Croatia two goals.
