At the end of the 2018 NPFL season, Mfon Udoh, an Akwa Ibom indigene, ended a 5-year stay in Aba with Enyimba FC the People’s Elephants.
Without contemplating, many Fans of the club didn’t have that go well with them, but it was just about time he left for somewhere else from the Strikers perspective.
One who started his youth Career with Diamond Rovers FC of Calabar, going to score over 8 goals for them in the 2011/12 Nigeria National League, NNL Season, joined Akwa Utd in the 2012/13 Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL season, his hometown club, scored 16 goals for the Promise Keepers to make them escape relegation, not thrashing the fact that 8 amongst those goals were scored away from home, when he was just a little above 20 years then.
His performances then made him join Enyimba FC, two time African Champions.
In that season the young man went ahead and shattered the previous League scoring record and recorded 23 goals.
Mfon’s quality can never be looked down on, and in this season’s NPFL, he already has 6 goals with Akwa Utd, in 9 appearances, a great stat.
Having reached that feat against Ifeanyi Ubah Fc on Wednesday in the League, the striker has revealed plans for himself and his club this season.
In an exclusive Interview with Naijafootballplus, the forward said his main objective is helping Akwa Utd get hold of the League for the first time in their history and win the League cup.
When asked on what has been the influence on the good performance, he said;
“Nothing, asides team work plus Hard work, has been the influence of my goalscoring, you look at it well, you see everyone working hand in hand, the defenders, midfielders, like Ubong Friday and other Forward Players Like me making impacts, so that’s brought about me scoring goals, and I still hope to do more considering my prowess”
Speaking further, Mfon Udoh was quick to rule out him setting another record and surpassing his goal record of 23 at the end of this season.
“It’s good to have target, yes, very fine, but my target isn’t really to surpass my goalscoring record, but to help Akwa Utd win the League Cup, to score as many goals as possible which will help Akwa Utd win the League for the first time in thier history.
This is my target, and I’ll be very okay achieving this rather than try to chase individual records alone” said Mfon Udoh.
Following his quality, One can always bank on the striker to deliver, and shouldn’t be surprised if Mfon’s target is reached at the end of the season.
